Eco Holiday Gift Guide

The holidays are merry, but all of the waste generated each season sure ain’t. Gobs of plastic packaging, wrapping paper, and presents you’ll never want/use/need make the end of the year pretty wasteful. Because of my personal commitment to reduce my overall waste, I’ve curated a truly luxurious and sustainable holiday gift guide for 2019 to share with all of you. Maybe you can’t control what gifts you receive, but you can feel good about giving these beautiful gifts that are easy on planet Earth.

From pigmented make-up palettes and natural fibers to candles that burn and grow into plants, this guide will help you cross out every name on your shopping list.

For The Beauty Lover

The richly hued eyeshadows of Aether Beauty will impress even the most seasoned beauty junky. This vegan, woman owned company is totally sustainable and cruelty free. No mirrors or magnets make these palettes one of the very few that are 100% recyclable. Plus, Aether Beauty is the gift that keeps on giving. Each product has its own charity partner with 1% of sales donated to its cause. Bonus: Their Black Friday 30% site wide sale starts today and ends on Sunday, Dec.1.

Summer Solstice Palette, $58

For the Green Thumb

Planting flowers and trees is not only a soothing hobby, but it’s crucial for our health. Trees absorb carbon dioxide, the main element causing climate change. Giving someone the gift of a tree from Forest Nation makes for a rewarding gift with purpose. The trees come as seeds in a tiny cup or pouch and for every one you purchase, Forest Nation plants a tree in a developing country. These trees repopulate deforested areas or provide a source of financial freedom for families in need. Buy one for a loved one this season or purchase a whole forest for your business or place of work.

Kicks from Allbirds make a stand-out gift for the runner in your life. But when you find out they are made from sustainable wool, sugar, tree, and trino (tree and merino) they transform into a present you’ll feel great about. One recycled bottle equals one pair of Allbird shoelaces. As you might have guessed, their packaging is made from 90% recycled cardboard.

For The Fashionista

my jacket thrifted in London 9 years ago and jeans bought last year

Levi’s never go out of style. Killer jeans or a cozy denim jacket always please and frankly, last forever. So much of Levi’s denim ware for sale is already repurposed, but since the Cotton’s Blue Jeans Go Green™ program was created in 2006, 1,200 tons of textile waste has been diverted from landfills and serves as insulation for homes and buildings. Levi’s also gives back to communities in numerous ways, making this heritage brand a ‘yes’ for Christmas. Bonus: Black Friday 40% off everything with code: INDIGO

Wedgie Fit Women’s Jeans, $98

For The Home Maker

Reduce, reuse, and upcycle with Hyggelight (The Growing Candle) this holiday season. Each candle comes with a paper seed label, so once the candle wax is gone, plant the seeds and watch wildflowers grow. 100% of materials are recycled and the paper label is compostable. Let Hyggelight candles (or plants) beautify your loved one’s home. Choose from fragrances like Rosemary, Sandalwood + Vanilla, Cedarwood, and Chai.

White Elephant

who gives a crap toilet roll

Give your friends a laugh while giving back to planet Earth. If you have a silly White Elephant gift exchange to attend, I recommend bringing a kitschy roll of who gives a crap. Each roll is 3-ply and made from 100% recycled materials with zero dyes or scents. Over 50% of their profits go to build toilets for those in need. Smells great to me!

48 rolls, $48
